“Being a Denver Bronco was more than just a team. It was my heart, my home and my story.”Exactly 10 years to the day we drafted him, All-Pro safety @jsimms1119 is retiring a Bronco: pic.twitter.com/rOZbocQU5o

Drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Simmons piled up 666 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, 32 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, and one defensive touchdown in his career. He played eight seasons in with Denver and one with the Atlanta Falcons. After a decade in the NFL, he is hanging them up.

“To the best fans in the world and Broncos Country, thank you so much for all your support for both myself and my family,” Simmons told DenverBroncos.com. “The years of growing together in eight years in Denver are some of the most-cherished memories that I’ll have. … You guys have literally made all of the world of difference for me as a player and I can’t thank you enough — you truly are the best fans in the world. And this is not a goodbye. I look forward to joining you guys in the stands as we cheer on our team for years and years and years to come.”

My favorite memory of Simmons was one of his first. With Drew Brees and Sean Payton in line for a game-winning kick, Simmons jumped over the line and blocked the punt where fellow rookie Will Parks scooped and scored on the extra point to win the game.

There were plenty of other big plays and of his 32 interceptions, six of them came against Patrick Mahomes. He just had a knack for reading Mahomes and picking him off.
