In a move that's sure to send ripples through the SEC recruiting landscape, Alabama has secured a commitment from 2026 linebacker Kenneth Simon II—and they did it by plucking a top talent straight out of Tennessee's backyard.

Simon, a Tennessee legacy, had plenty of reasons to stay close to home. But after building strong bonds with Alabama's defensive staff—particularly linebackers coach Chuck Morrell and defensive coordinator Kane Wommack—he saw a clear path to becoming the player he wants to be.

"Coach Morrell promised he'd put everything into making me the best version of myself," Simon said. "He knows a lot about linebackers and the development of guys like me. He's ready to work with me, and that means a lot."

Head coach Kalen DeBoer also left a lasting impression on the standout linebacker, who is currently ranked as a top-150 player and the No. 7 linebacker in the nation by 247Sports.

"He's a winner, and he hates losing," Simon said. "When you've got coaches and players that hate losing, things are going to go right. I like what he's about and how much he cares for his players and the program. Coach DeBoer is going to win at Alabama."

Simon's recruitment was a hard-fought battle. Tennessee will always hold a special place in his heart, and both Georgia and Ole Miss gave him plenty to consider. But in the end, the Crimson Tide's vision for his development won out.

"It's been a blessing," Simon said. "A lot of kids don't get the opportunity to go through this process and play at the next level. I'm just thankful. I developed some great relationships with different coaches, but Alabama separated in the end. Why would you not want to be there? It just felt right. I just want to go be the best version of myself, and I believe Alabama can get me there."

For Alabama fans, this commitment is especially sweet because it comes at the expense of a rival. Stealing a legacy player from Tennessee's backyard is the kind of recruiting win that fuels the Tide's championship culture. And while Alabama's 2026 class is still small—the program traditionally takes a patient approach, with most commitments coming after summer camp visits in June—this early addition signals that the DeBoer era is already making waves on the trail.

As the quarterback battles and position races start heating up, one thing is clear: Alabama is reloading, and they're doing it with players who believe in the process.
