Michigan basketball fans, it's time to recalibrate your roster expectations. The highly anticipated addition of star transfer guard Juke Harris is officially off the table.
Harris, the dynamic 6-foot-7, 200-pound guard who lit up the scoreboard at Wake Forest last season, will not be bringing his elite scoring touch to Ann Arbor. A source with direct knowledge of the discussions confirmed that both the Wolverines and Harris' camp have mutually agreed to explore other options.
This is a significant pivot for Michigan, as Harris was widely considered the top remaining target on their transfer board. The former Demon Deacon was a bona fide bucket-getter, ranking 14th nationally with an impressive 21.7 points per game to go along with 6.5 rebounds. He had seven games of 28 points or more and became Wake Forest's first player since 1961 to eclipse 750 points in a single season.
For now, Harris is keeping his options open. He's filed for early entry into the NBA Draft but is maintaining his college eligibility. If he returns to the college game, the buzz points toward Tennessee as the likely landing spot, with North Carolina also in the mix. The NBA Combine runs May 10–17 in Chicago, and players have until May 27 to withdraw from the draft, which takes place June 23–24.
So where does this leave Michigan? The Wolverines have already assembled a solid transfer class, anchored by a trio of big men: former Cincinnati center Moustapha Thiam, ex-Tennessee forward J.P. Estrella, and LSU transfer Jalen Reed. The frontcourt is looking formidable.
The backcourt, however, still has a question mark at the wing. Michigan needs to replace Yaxel Lendeborg, Roddy Gayle Jr., and Will Tschetter, all of whom logged significant minutes at the small forward spot. While the coaching staff feels comfortable rolling into 2026-27 with the current roster, don't be surprised if they look to add another piece on the perimeter before the offseason is through.
For now, the Wolverines' transfer portal haul is solid, but it's missing that one superstar scorer. The search continues.
