Michigan basketball fans hoping for a big splash in the transfer portal will have to look elsewhere. Juke Harris, the highly-coveted guard transfer from Wake Forest, won't be heading to Ann Arbor after all.
According to a source close to the situation, both Michigan and Harris' camp have mutually agreed to part ways. It's a tough break for the Wolverines, who had Harris pegged as their top remaining target on the recruiting board.
Harris, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound guard with forward-like size, was nothing short of spectacular last season. He ranked 14th nationally in scoring at 21.7 points per game, adding 6.5 rebounds to his stat line. The numbers tell the story: seven games with 28-plus points, 17 games with at least 20, and a historic 750-point season—the first Wake Forest player to hit that mark since 1961.
Right now, Harris is testing the NBA Draft waters. He's filed for early entry but is keeping his college eligibility open. If he returns to the NCAA, Tennessee and North Carolina are the frontrunners, with On3's Joe Tipton predicting a move to the Volunteers. The NBA Combine runs from May 10-17 in Chicago, and Harris has until May 27 to decide whether to stay in the draft or return to college.
For Michigan, the transfer portal has already been kind. The Wolverines landed a strong trio of big men: former Cincinnati center Moustapha Thiam, ex-Tennessee forward J.P. Estrella, and former LSU big Jalen Reed. That's a solid frontcourt foundation for 2026-27.
But what about replacing Harris' scoring punch? For now, the coaching staff feels comfortable with the current roster. That said, don't count out another addition—especially on the wing, where Michigan could use a boost. The portal giveth, and the portal taketh away, but the Wolverines are still in position to compete.
