Brentford B captain Josh Stephenson has issued a rallying cry ahead of Monday's Robert Rowan Invitational, declaring that the young Bees are determined to "do the club proud" when they face Paris Saint-Germain Under-21s at Gtech Community Stadium (7pm BST kick-off).
The fixture marks the grand finale of a memorable 2025/26 campaign for Sam Saunders' side, and Stephenson is adamant that the squad intends to finish on a high note. The defender believes that their experiences playing against first-team opposition during pre-season tours have perfectly prepared them for the daunting challenge posed by PSG's talented youngsters.
"We know how massive it is for the club," Stephenson said. "For ourselves, we just want to do the club proud at all times. When we got told our opponents were PSG, everyone was pretty excited for the game. There are going to be some of the best players around in our age group, so it'll be a very good experience."
The centre-back, who joined Brentford in November 2024, quickly learned about the profound impact that Robert Rowan had on establishing the B team structure. "I got signed as a B-team player, so I know how Robert set up the team for Brentford. It's been a really big part of my time here, so I'm very grateful for everything he did for Brentford," Stephenson reflected.
Looking back on the season, Stephenson praised the squad's growth and adaptability. "It's been amazing, it's been a really good year. There was a lot of change from the team last year, and we knew that going into pre-season."
He also highlighted the invaluable experience of training alongside first-team players and featuring in matchday squads with fellow youngsters Luka Bentt, Ollie Shield, and Riley Owen. "I'm sure we can cope with that, we showed that playing against Monaco and beating them, so hopefully we can get a similar result. Throughout the whole year, no matter who we play against, our mentality is the same; we have enough quality to win any game, to be honest."
For fans attending Monday's clash, expect to see a Brentford B side playing with the same grit and determination that has defined their season—and wearing it with pride, from the first whistle to the last.
