NEED TO KNOWJosh Allen shared details about his offseason foot surgery and said his recovery is going "great"
The injury stemmed from an old issue that worsened after a hit during Week 16 against the Cleveland Browns
Allen also reflected on becoming a father, calling it a "blessing" and saying it has changed his perspective on life
Josh Allen is giving an update on his health following his offseason foot surgery.
The Buffalo Bills quarterback, 29, reflected on the procedure while addressing the media on Monday, April 20, sharing that he's doing "great" in his recovery.
The NFL star was sacked by Myles Garrett and Alex Wright of the Cleveland Browns during Week 16, which he said aggravated an existing foot injury.
“It was actually kind of a previous deal that I never knew I had and that just kind of jolted it loose,” he said while reflecting on his surgery.
“A little piece of bone just kind of broke off and was floating there," continued Allen. "So they just went in and took it out, [it was] kind of like a small rock. They literally just cut it out, left it on the table and sewed it back up. Scar tissue will form around it and it feels really good right now. I don’t feel like I have any limitations.”
When asked if he got to keep the bone, Allen smiled and said, "No. Our head trainer, Nate Breske, was there, and apparently, they like wrapped it up and threw it away as quickly as they could. And I really wanted it."
He joked that it may be "floating out there" somewhere or be on the black market.
The football player opened up further about the injury, confirming that it "wasn't a fresh break."
“At some point, whether it was five, 10, maybe even 15 years ago, something had happened and it just kind of calloused over and basically had set so it wasn’t painful until I again put weight on it, put a lot of weight on it and it just kind of jarred loose and kind of broke up all the scar tissue in there," he explained.
Allen looked towards the future, expressing elsewhere in the press conference how becoming a father has changed his perspective on football and life in general.
His wife, Hailee Steinfeld, 29, announced that the two welcomed their first baby together earlier in April.
“I am very excited, and I do think this is going to be the best version of myself in all aspects in my professional career and my personal life,” said Allen.
“It’s such a blessing and I’ve got an absolute rock star of a wife that’s doing so many things right now and allowing me to be here right now and be with my teammates, so yes, special times," he continued.

When asked if he's slept, Allen laughed and said, "No, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. It’s very rewarding."
