In a dramatic turn of events at Round 17 of the SuperMotocross World Championship in Salt Lake City, Jorge Prado has been fined and docked one rider license point for making an obscene hand gesture toward rival Cooper Webb. The incident occurred moments after Prado secured a podium finish, crossing the line just six-tenths of a second ahead of Webb to claim third place.

The tension between these two riders has been building throughout the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross season, with multiple on-track incidents fueling the fire. According to SMX Media, "Race Direction reviewed an incident involving Rider #26 (Prado) and Rider #1 (Webb) in section 8 after the finish line. After review, it was determined that Rider #26 (Prado) violated the code of conduct by using an obscene hand gesture during the competition."

When asked about the escalating rivalry, Prado didn't hold back. "I'm always the guy that's taken out; I never take him out, so he's going pretty aggressive with me," he explained, referencing a late-race clash at Denver where Webb's aggressive block pass sent Prado to the ground. "Even the other weekend, if he had 20 minutes plus a lap to pass me, he always decides to go aggressive. So if he was much faster, he would've passed me, as the other riders did. I just focused on myself, and hopefully next year I'm a bit better, so I don't need to be fighting with him."

The Denver incident was particularly costly for Webb, who finished 11th—marking the first time in 2026 Supercross competition that he failed to crack the top 10. The pair also tangled in Round 11 in Detroit, where Prado finished 13th and Webb came home sixth.

For fans following this heated rivalry, the Salt Lake City gesture is just the latest chapter in what's becoming one of the season's most compelling storylines. As the championship battle intensifies, all eyes will be on how these two competitors handle the pressure—and each other—in the rounds to come.
