Jonathan Lucroy, speaking on a podcast, said he was unhappy with how the Brewers handled his vetoed trade in 2016.

Jonathan Lucroy is stirring up old memories with a bombshell revelation about his 2016 trade from the Milwaukee Brewers—and it's taking the baseball world by storm.

Speaking on the To The Majors podcast alongside former big-leaguers Kevin Pillar and Cody Allen, the two-time All-Star catcher detailed a bizarre and frustrating experience at that year's trade deadline. The clip has since gone viral, reigniting conversations about the leadership style of Brewers-turned-Mets executive David Stearns.

Back in 2016, Lucroy was in the midst of another stellar season for a Brewers team destined for a 73-89 finish. As a prime trade asset, he held an 18-team no-trade clause in his contract—a detail that would become central to the drama.

According to Lucroy, Stearns informed him he had been traded to a "World Series-contending team" but refused to name the club, citing ongoing medical checks. Lucroy and his agent had a simple request: if the destination was on his no-trade list, let them know before any public announcement.

"Come to us before you have that idea, and if it's something that works out good in my favor... we'll consider that," Lucroy recalled saying.

But the Brewers stayed tight-lipped. Lucroy suspected the Rangers or Dodgers—the only playoff-bound teams on his approved list. When his agent hadn't been contacted, the catcher grew suspicious.

"You know I'm going to walk out of this room and I'm going to find out who it is in about three minutes," Lucroy said he told the front office.

He soon discovered the mystery team was the Cleveland Indians. Lucroy vetoed the deal, making him an instant villain in Ohio. The Brewers scrambled and eventually sent him to the Texas Rangers instead.

The podcast clip has sparked heated debate among fans and analysts, with many questioning how the situation was handled. For a catcher known for his leadership on and off the field, this behind-the-scenes look adds a fascinating—and cautionary—chapter to trade deadline lore.
