In a major development for European golf, Jon Rahm has reached a new agreement with the DP World Tour that secures his eligibility for next year's Ryder Cup, even as his future with LIV Golf remains in flux.

The two-time major champion and 2023 Masters winner had previously been at odds with the tour, declining an offer that eight of his LIV colleagues accepted to maintain their membership. That original deal required paying fines and committing to a minimum of six European tour events—terms Rahm initially rejected.

After further negotiations, both sides have now found common ground. While the exact number of events Rahm must play hasn't been disclosed, the DP World Tour confirmed the agreement includes payment of all outstanding fines from 2024 onward, plus participation in agreed-upon tournaments outside the majors for the remainder of the 2026 season.

This is welcome news for European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, as Rahm has been a cornerstone of the teams that won the last two editions of the biennial competition. The 31-year-old Spaniard now appears poised to compete at Adare Manor in Ireland next year, donning the blue and gold of Europe once again.

The timing is particularly significant, coming just a week after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund confirmed it would cease funding LIV Golf at the end of the 2026 season. The breakaway league is now actively seeking alternative investors as it resumes its campaign this weekend at Trump National Golf Club near Washington DC.

Rahm joined LIV in December 2023 with a reported signing bonus of $350 million (£258 million) and has since dominated the circuit, topping the individual standings last season and already securing two victories this year. His recent performance at the Masters saw him finish tied for 38th, and he's now preparing for the PGA Championship at Aronimink next weekend.

For fans of European golf and the Ryder Cup, this deal ensures one of the sport's brightest stars remains in the mix for international competition—regardless of where his LIV journey takes him next.
