Following a Thursday 78, Jon Rahm understood his chance for a second Green Jacket was slim.

Jon Rahm's quest for a second Masters title hit a major roadblock right out of the gate. Opening with a 6-over 78 at Augusta National, the 2023 champion found his hopes for another Green Jacket hanging by a thread.

"I’m going to need an absolute miracle," Rahm conceded after fighting back with a 2-under 70 on Friday. "I'm going to need a heck of a round tomorrow to give myself a chance and even then, might be a little too far away." His two-day total of 4-over left him hovering near the projected cut line, a stark contrast to his dominant victory just three years prior.

The Spaniard's first round was a struggle, featuring four bogeys and a double bogey without a single birdie to offset the damage. While he found three birdies in his second round, the early deficit proved immense. Reflecting on his disappointing start, Rahm pinpointed execution over strategy: "I know what I was doing wrong. Just couldn't get it done on the course."

This tournament marks Rahm's third Masters appearance since his high-profile move to LIV Golf, and he has yet to record a top-10 finish in that span. When asked about adjusting from the LIV format to the rigors of Augusta, his response was succinct: "None. Golf is golf." Despite the uphill battle, Rahm's fight to make the weekend cut exemplifies the relentless focus required to compete at the sport's highest level, a mindset every golfer can appreciate.
