If you're a college football fan, you know that the offseason is never truly quiet—especially when analysts like Fox's Joel Klatt drop their post-spring top 25 rankings. Klatt, widely regarded as one of the most balanced and insightful voices in the game, recently released his latest list, and as expected, Ohio State is right near the top.
Klatt has the Buckeyes at No. 3, the same spot he had them at this time last year. It's a ranking that feels both familiar and forward-looking, especially given the roster turnover in Columbus. With 51 new faces joining the program, there are certainly questions, but Klatt sees plenty of reasons for optimism—starting with the return of Heisman finalist quarterback Julian Sayin and superstar wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, whom he calls "the best player in college football."
"Quarterback Julian Sayin and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith headline the returning players for Ohio State," Klatt said. "Sure, there might be more turnover than usual in Columbus, but the Buckeyes have their Heisman finalist quarterback and the best player in college football returning."
Klatt also highlighted a key change on offense: new coordinator Arthur Smith, who is expected to implement a more pro-style system. That shift, combined with the return of four offensive linemen and running back Bo Jackson, has Klatt predicting an offense that could be "as good as any in college football."
Defensively, Ohio State took a hit in the NFL Draft, losing three players selected in the top 11 picks. But Klatt notes the Buckeyes aggressively addressed those losses through the transfer portal, and he believes the program has proven it can reload quickly. "They just showed last year that they can replace that level of talent in an offseason," he added.
As always, Klatt's analysis is sharp and even-handed—and for Buckeyes fans, it's another reason to feel confident heading into the fall. Whether it's the star power on offense or the defensive retooling, Ohio State looks poised to make another deep run. And for fans looking to rep their team in style, there's no better time to gear up for what promises to be an exciting season.
