When we asked Wisconsin high school basketball fans to name the most impactful boys player in state history, the response was overwhelming. Over 2,500 votes poured in, and the winner is a name that still echoes through gyms and court halls across the Badger State: Joe Wolf.

A product of Kohler High School, Wolf graduated 43 years ago, but his legacy hasn't faded. In fact, it’s only grown stronger. With 326 votes, he topped our list of 10 standout suggestions—and for good reason. Wolf is one of just 60 players in Wisconsin history to surpass 2,000 career points. He led Kohler to three state championships and earned McDonald's All-American honors, a feat that places him among the nation's elite.

But Wolf’s impact didn’t stop at the prep level. He went on to play college ball at the University of North Carolina, then carved out an 11-season NBA career. That combination of high school dominance and professional longevity is rare, and it clearly resonated with voters.

Still, Wolf wasn’t the only fan favorite. We also received 173 write-in submissions, with many players receiving multiple votes. That depth of support shows just how rich Wisconsin’s basketball tradition truly is—from historic legends to modern standouts who continue to inspire the next generation of players.
