Boos rang down around Anfield after another poor performance by Liverpool as they drew with Chelsea.

The sound that echoed around Anfield on Saturday was one no Liverpool player ever wants to hear: boos from their own supporters. After a frustrating 1-1 draw with Chelsea—another disjointed performance lacking energy and sharpness—the home crowd made their feelings clear. For Joe Gomez, a veteran of so many memorable nights at this stadium, the reaction stung, but he understands it.

"We feel it. It's the last thing we want," Gomez said after the match. "For us older boys who have experienced so many good times here, it does hurt. If it didn't, then you shouldn't still be here. We want to make it right."

The defender acknowledged that fans have every right to express their disappointment. "It's just a reaction to the whole year, and that's fair enough. The fans pay their hard-earned money to come and watch us, and they're entitled to show their frustration, in the same way they cheer us. I think we get it, we understand it. I hope you could see the urgency that we want to win. It's not a case of giving over."

The frustration wasn't limited to the final whistle. Earlier in the match, a decision by the coaching staff drew particular ire: substituting 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha in the 67th minute. The young winger had been one of Liverpool's brightest sparks, providing the assist for the equalizer and consistently threatening Chelsea's defense with his dribbling. Supporters were baffled to see him replaced while more experienced players struggling for form remained on the pitch.

Gomez offered some perspective on the decision. "To give a perspective, from the bench, Rio, he's young and he played in a high-intense game. I don't know how many games he started this year, but physically, he was tired. Those are the subtle things behind the scenes you probably don't realize. But we get it: Rio is a top player and has the ability to be a bright star for us in the future. But it was the later stages of the game and he's tired."

With only two matches remaining in the season, time is running out for Liverpool to change the narrative and give supporters a reason for optimism heading into the summer. The final game at Anfield will be more than just a result—it's a chance to remind everyone what this club stands for. For players like Gomez, who have worn the badge through triumph and struggle, the hope is that the season ends with cheers, not boos.
