The New York Jets made a savvy move on Thursday, signing veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick to bolster their offensive depth. At 32 years old, Patrick brings a reliable set of hands and a knack for finding the end zone—he recorded 15 catches for 187 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games (three starts) with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.
Patrick steps into a promising wide receivers room that already features playmakers like Garrett Wilson, Adonai Mitchell, Isaiah Williams, and first-round draft pick Omar Cooper Jr. It's a group that blends youth with experience, and Patrick's veteran presence could be a steadying influence.
This isn't a reunion with just any team, either. Patrick has a history with Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, who served as Detroit's defensive coordinator in 2024 when Patrick hauled in 33 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns during his lone season with the Lions. That familiarity should help Patrick hit the ground running.
There's also a connection to the front office: Jets general manager Darren Mougey was part of the Denver Broncos' staff when Patrick signed as an undrafted free agent out of Utah back in 2017. Patrick made the most of that opportunity, racking up 143 catches for 2,009 yards and 12 touchdowns in Denver before suffering a torn ACL in 2022 and a torn Achilles in 2023. His resilience is a testament to his grit.
To make room on the roster, the Jets waived kicker Will Ferrin, who was signed as an undrafted free agent out of BYU earlier this month. The team still has veteran Cade York and Lenny Krieg competing for kicking duties, so the special teams unit remains in capable hands.
