The New York Jets have officially extended a quarterback offer to Russell Wilson, but the nine-time Pro Bowler is taking his time before making a decision. Speaking at a recent charity event, Wilson confirmed to the NY Post that his visit with the Jets "went well," and the team has presented him with a contract to serve as the backup to starter Geno Smith.
At 37, Wilson is at a crossroads in his career. While he still believes he can play at a high level, he's also weighing offers from TV networks to transition into broadcasting. "I'm trying to figure out what's the next best thing for me to do," Wilson said. "I still know I can play ball at a high level, but I also think the opportunity to do TV is pretty cool, so we'll see."
Wilson's most recent NFL action came with the Giants last season, where he filled the same backup role. Despite being benched after just three games, he showed flashes of his former self—most notably in Week 2, when he threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns in an overtime loss to the Cowboys.
Currently, the Jets' depth chart behind Smith includes Brady Cook, Bailey Zappe, and rookie Cade Klubnik. Adding a veteran presence like Wilson could provide invaluable mentorship for the young group, especially as the team looks to build on its offensive momentum. For now, the ball is in Wilson's court as he decides whether to continue his playing career or step into the broadcast booth.
