Jets' rumored $60 million contract offer to Breece Hall gets big update

This wild contract extension rumor doesn't look to be true.

The rumor mill has been churning with speculation that the New York Jets offered running back Breece Hall a massive $60 million contract extension—but according to insiders, that buzz is more fiction than fact.

This offseason, the Jets placed the franchise tag on Hall, ensuring the dynamic back stays in New York for at least one more season rather than testing free agency. While both sides have expressed interest in a long-term deal, the reported four-year, $60 million offer appears to have been greatly exaggerated.

SNY's Connor Hughes investigated the rumor and found that sources on both ends of the negotiation table insist such an offer was never on the table. "Looked into the report the Jets offered Breece Hall a four-year, $60 million extension," Hughes reported. "Sources on both ends of the negotiation insist that was never on the table."

For context, that rumored figure would have shattered the running back market. The richest deal any running back has signed is Saquon Barkley's $41.2 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. A $60 million deal for Hall would be nearly $20 million more than that, though the $15 million average annual value would tie him with Derrick Henry for the third-highest APY at the position.

Hall is undoubtedly a special talent and deserving of a significant payday. At just 25 years old, he's shown explosive playmaking ability that makes him a cornerstone of the Jets' offense. But a four-year, $60 million deal was always a stretch. A more realistic scenario would be a shorter-term contract—perhaps three years—that allows Hall to hit free agency again before he turns 28. This approach would give the Jets cost certainty while Hall remains in his prime, and it would keep the annual value closer to market norms.

Both the Jets and Hall have now shut down the $60 million rumor definitively. While an extension is still possible, fans shouldn't expect record-breaking numbers anytime soon. For now, Hall will play on the franchise tag and prove he's worth every dollar of whatever deal eventually gets done.
