Jesse Lingard, the former Manchester United attacker who made history at Old Trafford, is once again making headlines—this time for a unique off-field move that blends his football career with his personal brand.
Since leaving Manchester United in the summer of 2022 after his contract expired, Lingard's journey has been anything but ordinary. During his time at Old Trafford, he made 232 appearances, scoring 35 goals and etching his name into club folklore with the extra-time winner in the 2016 FA Cup final. But his post-United career has taken him across the globe, from a brief, challenging stint at Nottingham Forest to a new chapter in South Korea with FC Seoul.
After two seasons in the Korean capital, Lingard opted for another change, signing with Brazilian side Corinthians earlier this year. It took him a little while to find his rhythm, but he scored his first goal for the club last month. Now, with two goals in 13 matches—including a strike in the Libertadores, South America's equivalent of the Champions League—he's making his mark. In fact, his goal in the 2-0 win over Peñarol made history: Lingard became the first English player ever to score in the prestigious competition.
But Lingard's latest move is off the pitch. According to TalkSPORT, the 32-year-old has been granted permission to change the name on the back of his shirt midway through the 2026 Brasileirao season. After previously sporting his surname with the number 77, Lingard will now feature "J Lingz"—a nod to his fashion label JLINGZ, which he launched ahead of the 2018 World Cup. While the brand unfortunately folded last year after accumulating £283,000 in debt, the nickname and personal brand still resonate with fans.
It's a bold, personal touch that reflects Lingard's flair for individuality—and a reminder that even as he writes new chapters on the pitch, his style and personality remain front and center.
