Michigan State's standout point guard, Jeremy Fears Jr., has taken a pivotal step in his basketball career, announcing via Instagram on Friday that he will enter the 2026 NBA Draft while retaining his college eligibility. This strategic move allows the dynamic playmaker to gather professional feedback without closing the door on a return to East Lansing.

Fears is coming off a sensational redshirt sophomore campaign where he led the Spartans in scoring with 15.2 points per game and, more impressively, led the entire nation with 9.4 assists per contest. His record-setting season saw him shatter Michigan State's single-season assists record with 328 dimes, eclipsing the mark set by Spartan legend Cassius Winston and ranking second all-time in Big Ten history.

His on-court brilliance earned him All-American and All-Big Ten honors, along with a spot as a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation's top point guard. While his three-point shooting remains a work in progress, Fears' elite court vision, transition speed, and potent mid-range game made him the engine of the Spartans' offense.

The journey wasn't without controversy, as a couple of on-court incidents drew criticism and even a public rebuke from Coach Tom Izzo. However, his indispensable value to the team was never in doubt. Currently ranked among the top 100 prospects for the draft, Fears now has a critical decision ahead.

To preserve his option of returning for another season under Coach Izzo, Fears must officially withdraw from the draft pool by midnight on May 27. His announcement expressed gratitude for the support of his family, coaches, and teammates, framing this as a learning opportunity to "compete against the best" as he continues to develop. Spartan fans will be watching closely as this talented guard tests the professional waters.
