Jeff Teague says it’s like Evan Mobley gets a pass …

Former NBA guard Jeff Teague recently stirred up some debate on the "Club 520" podcast, calling out Cleveland Cavaliers big man Evan Mobley for what he sees as a lack of accountability when he underperforms.

"It's like Evan Mobley gets a pass every time he plays bad," Teague said. "You know what I mean? We always talk about James Harden and Donovan Mitchell, then Evan Mobley kinda just sneaks by everybody."

Teague didn't hold back, pointing to Mobley's max contract as a reason for higher expectations. "At some point, Evan Mobley—if these two dudes, Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, are not having good nights—you're on a max deal. You're supposed to have a 36-point night, a 37-point night. You got the matchup. No disrespect to Tobias, but he's an older player, he's short. You got the matchup."

Mobley, who signed a five-year, $224 million rookie max extension with the Cavaliers in 2023, has been a key piece of Cleveland's young core. The 23-year-old forward is known for his defensive versatility and emerging offensive game, but Teague's comments suggest the spotlight should shine brighter on him when the team's stars struggle.

The critique adds fuel to ongoing conversations about player accountability in the modern NBA, especially for young stars on lucrative deals. For Cavs fans and basketball enthusiasts, it's a reminder that even the most promising talents face scrutiny when the pressure is on.
