The Washington Huskies saw the 2026 freshmen class take a big step forward in its development at spring practice.

Spring practice is a time of growth, and for the Washington Huskies, it was the freshmen who stole the spotlight. Head coach Jedd Fisch gave his 2026 recruiting class—the highest-ranked in program history—plenty of opportunities to earn their spots, and they didn't disappoint.

The star of the show was former five-star recruit Kodi Greene, who took every first-team snap at left tackle, showing the kind of poise that turns heads in the Pac-12. But he wasn't alone. Wide receivers Trez Davis and Jordan Clay impressed with their route-running and hands, while a formidable trio on the defensive line—TI Umu-Cais, Derek Colman-Brusa, and Ramzak Fruean—made their presence felt in the trenches.

In today's college football landscape, freshmen are expected to adapt fast, and Fisch's program is no exception. After the spring game, the coach praised the newcomers for seizing their chances. "I would say they've all taken advantage of their opportunities, some more than others," Fisch noted. "I think Ramzak Fruean's going to be an elite player, and I would expect him to be a huge contributor early and often."

With Washington needing to strengthen its lines, this infusion of talent couldn't come at a better time. Over 14 practices open to the public, it was clear that these young players will be key rotation pieces come fall. Fisch also highlighted sophomore tight end Baron Naone for making a "huge jump," rounding out a spring that promises an exciting season ahead for Huskies fans.
