Jaylen Brown and Payton Pritchard still saw some good in the Celtics' surprising 2025-26 season despite a heartbreaking Game 7 loss to the 76ers.

The Boston Celtics entered the 2025-26 season with modest expectations, but this resilient squad proved the doubters wrong at every turn. Despite missing star forward Jayson Tatum for most of the regular season, the team clawed its way back into contender status, winning game after game and reigniting championship dreams in Beantown.

Then came the playoffs. A heartbreaking Game 7 loss to the seventh-seeded Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night ended their title hopes with a 109-100 defeat. For a team that had defied the odds all year, the early exit stung deeply—especially against a hated rival.

But don't call this season a failure. Not in the eyes of the players who lived it.

"It was a great season," said Celtics star Jaylen Brown, who dropped a team-high 33 points in the loss. "I'm proud of my teammates and just their growth—from guys coming from different organizations, or guys who hadn't really played a lot who stepped up big in these playoffs and helped us get to the position that we're at. That's what it's about. I'm so grateful to be with this group."

Brown could have easily walked into that press room with a sour mood. He missed his last four shots in a tight, one-possession game that slipped away. Yet the five-time All-Star remained far from discouraged, showing the leadership that has defined his career in Boston.

"This group was awesome," Brown added. "I had a fun year. This is probably one of my most fun years playing basketball. It wasn't always perfect. It wasn't always analytically, aesthetically pleasing. But it was real."

Payton Pritchard echoed that sentiment, refusing to let the Game 7 heartbreak overshadow a season of growth. The Celtics may have fallen short of the ultimate prize, but they proved that resilience and teamwork can turn a rebuilding year into something special. For fans and players alike, that's a win worth celebrating—even in defeat.
