Recent Michigan State basketball history is filled with a lot of 'what-ifs'. What if the COVID year didn't take away Cassius Winston's last NCAA Tournament run? What if Tre Holloman didn't transfer to NC State? One of the biggest is around Jase Richardson. The former Michigan State freshman phenom who exploded onto the scene last year and ultimately parlayed that into a first round draft selection by the Orlando Magic.
Richardson's decision was definitely exacerbated by Tre Holloman's move to NC State, leading MSU to lose two starting caliber shooting guards in one offseason. The move led a lot of Spartan fans to wonder what could have been if Jase had stuck around for one more run. It's hard to argue with a first round draft pick, if Jase had slid to the second round the move would be much more criticized, but it's still a common topic amongst Spartan fans.
Jase, who is in Michigan this week with his Orlando Magic for their playoff series with the Detroit Pistons, was asked about the decision, and he gave a thoughtful answer in return:
We asked former Spartan Jase Richardson if he ever thinks about what it would have been like if he had returned to Michigan State for another season. "I do... I definitely do... but I feel like everybody made the right decision." @wilxTVhttps://t.co/kfMgGNkNNu pic.twitter.com/GRlTVzKSto
