The Carolina Hurricanes found themselves in a familiar playoff scenario—down but never out—as they clawed back to force overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers in Monday night's Game 2 of their second-round series.
Trailing 2-0 after a frantic first period, the Hurricanes showed the resilience that has defined their postseason run. Seth Jarvis emerged as the hero in regulation, scoring the equalizer at the 11:21 mark of the third period to knot the game at 2-2. The goal came off a crisp feed from Nikolaj Ehlers, who found Jarvis as the trailer on the rush, allowing him to beat Flyers goaltender Dan Vladar from the right side.
Ehlers had already opened Carolina's scoring earlier in the game, burying a power-play one-timer in the first period to cut into Philadelphia's early lead. That lead was built quickly by the Flyers, who struck twice in a 39-second span during the opening five minutes. Jamie Drysdale and Sean Couturier each found the back of the net, putting Carolina in its first deficit of the entire postseason.
From there, Vladar looked poised to make that 2-0 lead stand up. The Flyers' netminder was sharp throughout the middle frames, turning aside breakaway chances from Eric Robinson on two separate occasions. Defenseman Travis Sanheim also came up with a critical play in the second period, clearing a loose puck that had slipped behind Vladar in the crease, denying what seemed like a sure tying goal.
For the Hurricanes, the comeback was about more than just survival—it was a statement. After dominating the first round, they now find themselves chasing a 2-0 series lead on the road. With Game 3 shifting back to Carolina, the momentum from this dramatic rally could be exactly what they need to turn the series around.
