LeBron James scores 28 points as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Houston Rockets to set up a Western Conference semi-final play-off against reigning NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder.

LeBron James delivered a vintage performance, dropping 28 points as the Los Angeles Lakers took down the Houston Rockets 98-78 to punch their ticket to a Western Conference semifinal showdown against the reigning NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

James wasn't just scoring—he stuffed the stat sheet with seven rebounds and eight assists, leading the Lakers to a decisive Game 6 victory on the road. The win sealed the series 4-2 for Los Angeles, who had jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead before the Rockets fought back to force two more games.

For the 41-year-old legend, this game was about more than just advancing. "A lot of our guys haven't been in this position, especially on the road in a close-out situation," James said. "It was important for me to set the tone early."

Lakers head coach JJ Redick couldn't contain his praise for the league's all-time leading scorer, who is now in his 23rd NBA season—a feat no one else has achieved. "To me, he's had the greatest career of any NBA player," Redick said. "You can argue all you want, but he's one of, if not the greatest of all time. For him to answer the bell again at this stage? It's baffling."

Houston was led by Amen Thompson's 18 points, but it wasn't enough to slow down a Lakers team finding its stride at the perfect time.

Now, the Lakers face a monumental challenge. The Thunder finished atop the Western Conference and swept the Phoenix Suns in the first round, winning all four games. Game 1 of the best-of-seven series tips off Tuesday in Oklahoma City.

In the Eastern Conference, the Detroit Pistons pulled off a stunning comeback to force a Game 7. Trailing by as many as 24 points against the Orlando Magic, Detroit rallied to win 93-79 and even the series at 3-3. The Magic led 62-38 early in the third quarter and seemed poised to clinch their first playoff series win since 2010—but then missed 23 straight field goals, allowing the Pistons to storm back. Detroit had been down 3-1 in the series but now has all the momentum heading into the deciding game.
