West Bromwich Albion have made a decisive move for the future, officially appointing club legend James Morrison as their permanent head coach on a two-year deal. The 39-year-old former midfielder, who stepped up as interim boss following the dismissal of Eric Ramsay, has now earned the full-time role after steering the Baggies through a turbulent season.

Morrison's journey to the top job has been anything but straightforward. He first took the reins temporarily at the end of last season, then filled in again during Ryan Mason's brief stint earlier this campaign. When Ramsay was shown the door, it was Morrison who steadied the ship, and the club's board has clearly been impressed by his leadership during that period.

"I'm honoured and humbled to have been appointed head coach of this great football club," Morrison said, reflecting on his rapid rise from player to permanent boss. "The togetherness we have displayed in recent months – as players, staff, directors and fans – shows the enormous power of the Albion when it's focused on a collective goal. We must now use that passion and energy to set the club back on course for success."

With survival already secured, the Baggies can head into their final match of the season against bottom-of-the-table Sheffield Wednesday with renewed confidence. Morrison's side are riding an impressive 11-game unbeaten streak since the start of March, a run that has transformed their campaign from relegation scrap to a platform for next season's ambitions.

"Right now, my focus is on preparing the team for our final game at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday – but to go to Hillsborough knowing our fate has already been settled on the pitch is down to the hard work of everyone at The Hawthorns," Morrison added. He also took a moment to thank the fans who backed the team through thick and thin. "I will never forget the end to the Ipswich game when it felt like it was us against the world, with the atmosphere off the pitch matching the efforts of the players on it. Here's to more of that, please."

For West Brom supporters, this appointment feels like a natural fit. Morrison's deep connection to the club, combined with the resilience he's shown in the dugout, suggests that the Baggies are building something special – starting with a foundation of loyalty, grit, and a never-say-die attitude that looks perfect for the challenges ahead.
