For the second game in a row, Cavaliers star James Harden struggled – especially in the first half – against the Pistons in the conference semifinals.

For the second straight game, Cleveland Cavaliers star James Harden found himself in a frustrating battle against the Detroit Pistons—and the results have been far from what the team hoped for. In Game 2 of the conference semifinals, the Pistons secured a 107-97 victory on Thursday, May 7, taking a commanding 2-0 series lead. This followed a 111-101 win in Game 1, both played at Little Caesars Arena.

While road losses against a tough Pistons squad aren't entirely unexpected, the Cavaliers had opportunities to steal a win in both contests. However, Cleveland's marquee trade acquisition—a three-time scoring champion and 11-time All-Star—has been slow to find his rhythm, especially in the first half. Harden was brought in at this year's trade deadline to help the Cavs make a deeper playoff push after last season's stunning upset by the Indiana Pacers in the conference semifinals.

If Cleveland hopes to turn the series around, Harden will need to deliver more consistent shooting, improve his accuracy from beyond the arc, increase his assists, and cut down on costly turnovers. A pivotal moment came in Game 2 with just 30 seconds remaining: the Cavs trailing by six and trying to mount a comeback, Harden committed a critical turnover that all but sealed their fate.

Looking back at Game 1 on Tuesday, May 5, Harden scored 22 points but shot just 40% from the field (6-for-15) and connected on only 1 of 7 three-point attempts (14.2%). While he managed seven assists, he also turned the ball over seven times—a stat line that simply won't cut it in the postseason.

The Cavaliers will have a chance to regroup when they host Detroit for Game 3 on Saturday, May 9 at 3 p.m. ET. With their backs against the wall, Cleveland needs their star to step up and deliver the kind of performance fans have come to expect. And as the pressure mounts, all eyes will be on Harden—both for his game and his signature style on the court.
