A report this offseason indicated the Jaguars planned to make the 2024 Heisman winner a full-time cornerback.

Travis Hunter is set to do something most NFL players only dream of—play both offense and defense. After weeks of speculation this offseason about whether the Jaguars would limit the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner to one side of the ball, General Manager James Gladstone has officially put the rumors to rest.

"He is set to play both sides of the ball," Gladstone confirmed on The Rich Eisen Show. But here's the twist: fans can expect to see more of Hunter at cornerback this season. "Last year it was a higher volume, higher percentage of wide receiver usage than it was corner. I think we can expect to see that corner percentile and count go up."

As a rookie, Hunter logged 324 offensive snaps and 162 defensive snaps before a season-ending knee injury cut his campaign short. In just seven appearances, he hauled in 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown on offense, while adding 15 tackles on defense. The Jaguars' need at cornerback has only grown since then, making this shift a strategic one.

"It's not to say his snaps won't increase on offense either," Gladstone added. "But we have a different defensive cornerback room now. Our roster construction is different than it was a year ago, so it's more fitting to slot him at corner."

For Hunter, playing both ways isn't just a coaching decision—it's a personal mission. At Colorado in 2024, he racked up 688 defensive snaps and 672 on offense during his Heisman-winning season. "He wants to do exactly what he set out to do when he first started putting that into action all those years ago," Gladstone said. "That's his dream, and we'll support that in the best way we can."

Whether he's locking down receivers or making clutch catches, Hunter's dual-threat ability is a rare and exciting commodity in today's NFL. For fans and gear lovers alike, this is the kind of versatility that defines the next generation of football.
