Veteran quarterback Jameis Winston isn't holding back when it comes to his expectations for the New York Giants. With the arrival of head coach John Harbaugh and the emergence of young signal-caller Jaxson Dart, Winston believes this team has what it takes to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to the Big Apple.
For Giants fans, the past decade has been a tough pill to swallow. Since their last Super Bowl win in 2011, the franchise has posted just two winning seasons and a disappointing 13-38 record since their 2022 playoff appearance. But after parting ways with Brian Daboll and bringing in Harbaugh—who spent 18 seasons building a powerhouse in Baltimore—the winds of change are blowing through East Rutherford.
"I've always admired Coach Harbaugh," Winston shared in a recent interview. "When you look at the New York Giants' history, they've won with head coaches who facilitated great coaches around them—strong leaders with an old-school mentality. Bill Parcells is old school of the old school—he created a mold for NFL head coaches. Tom Coughlin is as old school as it gets, the epitome of a great leader. That's what I wanted."
Winston's excitement is palpable. "I was so happy when we hired John Harbaugh. I was excited because I felt like he gets it. He understands empowering players and coaches. Having someone who understands the importance of building the best possible team—coaching staff, players, personnel—is exciting. I'm happy that John brought his mojo to the New York Giants. We're going to rock with him, fight for him, and win some football games—that's the most important thing."
While Winston serves primarily as a backup to the dynamic Jaxson Dart, he's been impressed by what he's seen from the young quarterback. Dart's fearless style and electric playmaking ability have drawn comparisons to Winston's own early career, and the veteran sees a bright future ahead for his protégé.
"It's exciting, man," Winston said. "Every time I'm in the meeting room with him and watching some of his clips from last year, it kind of reminds me of myself, because he's tough, he's fearless, and he has this aura about him that allows everybody on our team to get behind him."
With Harbaugh's proven track record, Dart's raw talent, and Winston's veteran leadership, the Giants are building something special. Whether it's enough to silence the doubters and make a deep playoff run remains to be seen—but one thing's for sure: the confidence in the locker room has never been higher.
