Jake Paul's boxing future is hanging in the balance after a devastating loss to Anthony Joshua last December left him with a broken jaw—and now, the YouTube star-turned-prizefighter admits he may never step into the ring again.
In a candid interview with Ariel Helwani, Paul revealed that retirement is "definitely in the realm of possibility" as he awaits crucial medical updates on his recovery. "I'm getting some new scans in a couple of days on the jaw to get an update on the healing process," Paul explained. "We'll see what the doctors say. I think I'll be able to get a more accurate timeframe, or can I even fight again?"
The 29-year-old, who holds a 12-2 record with seven knockouts, acknowledged that while his jaw feels better with each passing week, he still needs clearance before he can even spar. "It does feel a lot better as weeks go by, but I definitely need to get cleared to be able to spar. I think it just depends on how the bone heals," he added.
For those who have followed Paul's unconventional boxing journey, the question isn't just about his physical recovery—it's about whether there's any compelling reason for him to continue. At this stage in his career, Paul has already amassed significant wealth through his various business ventures, including his sports apparel brand, and doesn't need the financial incentive that drives most fighters.
Moreover, while Paul has repeatedly stated his goal of winning a world title, the reality is that he simply doesn't possess the skill set to compete at that level. The fascination with his boxing career has also likely peaked. Aside from a potential blockbuster matchup with someone like Conor McGregor, it's hard to imagine what fight would reignite the public's interest in his bouts.
For now, the sports world waits to see what those next scans reveal. Whether this marks the end of Jake Paul's boxing experiment or just a temporary setback, one thing is clear: the decision may ultimately be made not by his ambition, but by his body.
