Jake Paul's boxing future hangs in the balance after a devastating broken jaw suffered in his fight against Anthony Joshua, and the internet star-turned-fighter admits he's not sure if he'll ever step back into the ring.
It's been five months since Paul took on Joshua in a bout that came together after his originally scheduled fight with Gervonta "Tank" Davis fell through. Despite lasting longer than many critics predicted, Paul was eventually caught by a thunderous punch from Joshua that sent him crashing to the canvas and ended his night prematurely.
The aftermath revealed a broken jaw, and the recovery process has been anything but straightforward. Now, Paul is waiting on new medical scans to determine if he can ever compete again—or if his boxing career is already over.
"I'm getting some new scans here in a couple of days of the jaw to get an update on the healing process," Paul shared. "We'll see what my doctors say. I think I'll be able to get a more accurate timeframe or answer the big question: can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibilities."
While Paul remains hopeful, he's not sugarcoating the situation. The injury has already raised serious concerns, and his doctor has advised him against fighting again—even before the latest scans come back. "Most definitely there's a chance I can't fight again," Paul admitted. "It just depends on how the bone heals. There's also a tooth missing here that I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get an implanted tooth of some sort. I don't know how much time that's going to add to things."
For now, Paul is staying active in the gym, keeping in shape with mitt work but avoiding sparring until he gets the green light. "It does feel a lot better as weeks go by," he said. "But I definitely need to get cleared first to be able to spar."
Whether this marks the end of Jake Paul's boxing journey or just a major setback remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the road back is going to be a long one, and even the people closest to him are telling him it might be time to hang up the gloves for good.
