Jake Paul's boxing future hangs in the balance after a devastating broken jaw suffered against Anthony Joshua has left the YouTuber-turned-fighter facing an uncertain path back to the ring.
The 29-year-old American was stopped in the sixth round by former heavyweight champion Joshua back in December, a fight that left Paul with a fractured jaw requiring immediate surgery. A second operation followed in February, and now Paul admits he's waiting on crucial medical scans to determine whether he can ever fight again.
"I'm getting some new scans here in a couple of days – of the jaw – to get an update on the healing process," Paul revealed on The Ariel Helwani Show. "We'll see what my doctors say. I think I'll be able to get a more accurate timeframe of can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibilities."
The injury has been a sobering reality check for a fighter who built his career on viral moments and celebrity matchups. Paul, who transitioned from social media stardom to professional boxing, now faces the very real possibility that his fighting days are over before he turns 30.
"My doctor, Arman, he doesn't want me to fight again," Paul admitted. "He's saying he doesn't want me to. There's the occasional business person who's just like, 'You don't need to do this.' My fiancée is kind of in both boats – she understands being an athlete and having that feeling inside you, wanting to prove yourself more and compete."
Despite the medical concerns and the voices urging him to walk away, Paul's competitive fire still burns. "I'm not done," he insisted. "I can just feel it in my spirit, in my soul and my heart that I have more fights left and unfinished business, in my mind."
The loss to Joshua marked Paul's second career defeat, following his 2023 setback against Tommy Fury. But while the physical toll has been severe – including a missing tooth that will require an implant – Paul remains optimistic about his recovery process.
"It does feel a lot better as weeks go by," he said. "But I definitely need to get cleared first to be able to spar. I'm staying in shape, always in the gym pretty much regardless, just enjoying some mitt work."
For now, the boxing world waits alongside Paul for those critical scan results that will determine if the social media star can continue his unlikely journey in the squared circle – or if the broken jaw in Miami was the final chapter of his fighting story.
