Jake Paul has revealed that the broken jaw he sustained in his December loss to Anthony Joshua might force him to hang up his gloves for good. The YouTuber-turned-boxer was stopped by a devastating punch from the former heavyweight champion, and five months later, the injury is still being carefully monitored.
"We'll see what my doctors say," Paul told Uncrowned on Monday. "I'll be able to get a more accurate timeframe, or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibilities. The jaw does feel a lot better as weeks go by, but I definitely need to get cleared first to be able to spar."
When asked directly if his boxing career could be over, Paul admitted, "Most definitely. It just depends on how the bone heals. There's also a tooth missing. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need an implanted tooth of some sort. I'm not sure how much time that will add, but we just have to see what the smartest move is for me."
This defeat marked only the second loss in Paul's 14-fight professional career, which has seen him prove himself as a competent but limited boxer. The Joshua bout was his first true test against a world-class opponent, with his previous fights coming against either past-their-prime legends like a 58-year-old Mike Tyson or crossover stars from other sports, such as former NBA player Nate Robinson.
While the 29-year-old never quite established himself as a force in the ring, there's no denying his business savvy. He raked in tens of millions of dollars from his fights and has no regrets about stepping into the ring with Joshua, despite the painful outcome. "I think it was such a win on so many different levels," Paul said. "I had a really good experience. Overall, it was a net positive for me, my companies, my fighting experience, and my content. I'll really fight anybody, to be honest. I've been saying that, and I think people now believe me. I'm here for entertainment purposes."
