The guard trades in his big red for the blue and white

Big news out of Villanova as the Wildcats secure a major backcourt addition for the 2024-25 season. Graduate transfer Jake Fiegen, a standout guard from Cornell, has officially committed to head coach Kevin Willard's program.

Fiegen, a First Team All-Ivy League selection, is coming off a stellar senior year where he averaged 17.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. His shooting efficiency is what makes him a truly elite pickup; he shot a remarkable 54.6% from the field and 41.4% from beyond the arc, establishing himself as one of the nation's most efficient three-level scorers.

This commitment addresses a key need for Villanova following the recent departures of guards Chris Jeffrey and Malachi Palmer. The 6'4" guard from Wilmette, Illinois chose the Wildcats over other high-major programs like Vanderbilt, Virginia, and Northwestern.

Fiegen's skill set provides Coach Willard with significant lineup flexibility. He brings immediate experience and elite perimeter shooting that will perfectly complement the forward duo of Kwame Evans Jr. and Devin Royal. Fiegen could slot into a sixth-man role similar to Devin Askew last season or even compete for a starting spot at shooting guard, offering valuable spacing in smaller, faster lineups.

With Fiegen now in the fold, Villanova's focus in the transfer portal shifts to filling two other critical roles: securing a starting-caliber point guard and adding depth at the center position. This savvy portal acquisition signals that the Wildcats are aggressively reloading to remain a force in the Big East.
