Jaire Alexander decided to step away from the NFL in November. He opened up about the reasons for that in a post for The Players' Tribune.

Jaire Alexander's journey through the NFL took an unexpected turn last November when he decided to step away from the game. Now, months later, the former Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl cornerback is opening up about what led to that decision—and it's a story that resonates far beyond the gridiron.

In a heartfelt post on The Players' Tribune, Alexander revealed the emotional weight that followed his release from the Packers after the 2024 season. "After I got cut, I tried to pretend like it was no big thing," he wrote. "But I never really fully dealt with all the emotions I was feeling. What I've realized since, in working with my therapist, is that me leaving Green Bay… it was almost like a marriage coming to an end."

For a player who had poured everything into the game, that separation lingered. "It sticks with you," Alexander admitted. "And I can tell you point blank that I absolutely blamed myself in the moments when I'd think about that divorce."

The 29-year-old's path took a dramatic turn when he was traded from the Baltimore Ravens to the Philadelphia Eagles in early November. Just over a week later, on Nov. 11, he stepped away from the NFL entirely, citing a need to "get himself right physically and mentally," according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer.

Coming off a torn PCL, Alexander had signed with the Ravens in free agency ahead of the 2025 season, determined to prove he still had Pro Bowl-caliber talent. He pushed to be ready for a Week 1 primetime debut against the Buffalo Bills—but the performance left him embarrassed and shaken. "I lost my confidence in the process," he shared.

Alexander's story is a powerful reminder that even the toughest competitors face moments of doubt and struggle. Whether you're lacing up for game day or just hitting the gym, sometimes the hardest opponent is the one staring back at you in the mirror.
