The Jacksonville Jaguars are adding a veteran presence to their backfield, signing running back Ameer Abdullah to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
The move, announced Monday, brings a seasoned player to the Jaguars' offense as they look to build depth behind their primary runners. Abdullah, who will turn 33 in June, spent the 2025 season with the Indianapolis Colts, where he made his biggest impact on special teams. Still, he showed flashes of his versatility in limited offensive action, rushing for 60 yards and a touchdown while adding 16 receptions for 99 yards.
Before his stint with the Colts, Abdullah enjoyed a productive three-year run with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he truly shined in 2024. That season, he racked up 311 rushing yards with two touchdowns and proved to be a reliable target out of the backfield with 40 catches for 261 yards and three scores.
Originally selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Abdullah has carved out a solid career as a change-of-pace back and special teams contributor. Over the years, he has suited up for the Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Indianapolis Colts, appearing in 154 games with 26 starts.
In addition to signing Abdullah, the Jaguars announced they have re-signed offensive lineman Sal Wormley, placed offensive lineman Jordan White on the reserve/retired list, and waived running back Ja'Quinden Jackson as they continue to shape their roster for training camp.
