In the competitive world of NFL roster building, the Jacksonville Jaguars have made a savvy financial move following the 2026 NFL Draft. Among their 18 undrafted free agent signings, quarterback Joey Aguilar has emerged as one of the league's highest-paid UDFAs, signaling the team's confidence in his potential.
According to Spotrac, Aguilar secured $247,500 in guaranteed money, ranking 21st among all UDFA signings across the NFL. That's just a step behind the top mark of $310,000, set by Utah edge rusher Logan Fano, who signed with the Cleveland Browns. For a player who entered the draft without being selected, this is a strong vote of confidence from the Jaguars' front office.
Aguilar's journey to this point is a story of steady improvement. After spending several seasons at Appalachian State, he made the leap to the SEC in 2025 with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Despite facing tougher competition, his completion rate actually increased—a testament to his poise and adaptability. He also showcased his big-play ability, throwing 24 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Jaguars general manager James Gladstone noted a similar pattern with Jalen McLeod last year, praising players who maintain productivity when stepping up in competition.
Now, Aguilar will battle Carter Bradley for the third quarterback spot on the depth chart, behind established starters Trevor Lawrence and Nick Mullens. However, the question remains whether that role will make the 53-man roster. Last season, offensive coordinator Liam Coen opted to carry only two quarterbacks, with the third stashed on the practice squad. Aguilar's performance this summer will need to be compelling enough to convince Coen to keep three signal-callers on the active roster.
Beyond Aguilar, the Jaguars also invested in Colorado cornerback Preston Hodge, who received $67,500 in guaranteed money—the second-highest total on the team. As training camp approaches, all eyes will be on these young talents to see if they can turn their guaranteed dollars into long-term NFL careers.
