When the most decorated golfer in history decides to build a new course, the golf world pays attention. And when that course is a family affair, it becomes something truly special.
Jack Nicklaus—the Golden Bear himself—along with his son Gary Nicklaus, is spearheading the development of an exciting new private club in Palm Beach County: NOKOSI, A Nicklaus Family Club. Set to open in fall 2026, construction is already underway on this 153-acre property, with work on amenities beginning later this year.
Located just 20 minutes from Palm Beach International Airport, NOKOSI represents a full reimagination of the former Sherbrooke Golf & Country Club, which closed about a decade ago. The land had previously been slated for housing development, but those plans never came to fruition—clearing the way for something far more exciting.
What makes this project particularly noteworthy? It marks Jack Nicklaus's first course design since he reacquired his namesake company after a lengthy legal battle. It's also the flagship project for a newly formed development group led by Gary Nicklaus and the Nicklaus family, in partnership with TWG Global—a diversified holding company with stakes in the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Lakers, among other major sports ventures.
"Palm Beach County has been home to our family for close to 60 years, and where Barbara and I have raised our five children, most of our 24 grandchildren, as well as our nine great-grandchildren—with number 10 on the way," said Nicklaus, who has designed more than 300 courses worldwide. "NOKOSI is very personal to us, because it is inspired and driven by our lifelong commitment to family. It is about creating a place where families can come together around great golf, great friendships and a club culture built to last for generations."
The name itself carries deep meaning: "Nokosi" translates to "bear" in the Seminole language—a fitting tribute to the Golden Bear's legendary legacy. The course will feature Nicklaus's signature design philosophy, emphasizing pleasing aesthetics and strategic shot values. Beyond the fairways, members can look forward to expansive practice facilities, top-tier instruction programs, a luxurious clubhouse, event venues, and a full fitness center.
For fans of the game who appreciate the rich history and tradition of golf, NOKOSI promises to be more than just another club—it's a legacy project from one of the sport's most iconic families. Whether you're dreaming of walking the same fairways as a legend or simply appreciate the craftsmanship of world-class course design, this is one development worth watching.
