The Vegas Golden Knights kicked off their second-round playoff series with a dramatic 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night, but the game wasn't without controversy. Ivan Barbashev delivered the decisive blow with 4:58 remaining, capitalizing on a disputed no-call that left the Ducks fuming.

The flashpoint came when linesman Bevan Mills initially waved off a potential icing call after Barbashev's pass from behind the red line to teammate Jack Eichel. With Eichel battling Anaheim's Jackson LaCombe for possession, the officials let play continue, and Barbashev didn't hesitate. Dorofeyev set him up with a terrific pass, and Barbashev buried it to put Vegas ahead for good.

"Clearly, I disagreed with the call," said Ducks coach Joel Quenneville, who noted he didn't receive an explanation from the officials. "Their guy stopped skating, which really made me annoyed."

Golden Knights coach John Tortorella admitted he couldn't see the play from his vantage point but had no complaints about the outcome. "I tried to put the puck deep and I thought I saw Jack on the far side going deep," Barbashev explained. "Jack put pressure on him, they turned it over and Pav made a great play."

Brett Howden continued his red-hot streak, scoring his fifth goal in four games and extending his career-best goal streak. Mitch Marner added an exclamation point with a 162-foot empty-net goal with just six seconds left, after assisting on Howden's early second-period tally. Carter Hart was stellar between the pipes, stopping 33 shots for the Golden Knights.

Mikael Granlund provided the lone goal for Anaheim, while Lukas Dostal made 19 saves. Despite being outshot 34-22, Vegas found a way to grind out the win—a hallmark of championship-caliber teams.

"They were the better team tonight," Tortorella admitted. "But it's a find-a-way league. We found a way to win, and I'm certainly not going to apologize for the win."

The Golden Knights' penalty kill also continued to shine, extending their impressive stretch of playoff dominance. Game 2 of this best-of-seven Western Conference series remains in Las Vegas, and with tensions already running high, fans can expect more fireworks ahead.
