North Carolina basketball fans can breathe a sigh of relief: combo guard Isaiah Denis has withdrawn from the NCAA transfer portal and will remain a Tar Heel for his sophomore season. The Charlotte native's decision to stay in Chapel Hill provides a key piece of continuity for Hubert Davis's squad as they build next year's roster.

Denis arrived at UNC with significant pedigree as a consensus four-star prospect, ranked 60th nationally by ESPN. He chose the Tar Heels over a who's-who of college basketball blue bloods, including Kansas, Michigan, and Ohio State. His freshman campaign, however, was hampered by a reaggravated finger injury originally suffered in high school, limiting him to just three ACC appearances. In that small sample, he showed promising flashes, shooting an efficient 50% from the field and from three-point range.

His return adds valuable backcourt depth and homegrown talent to the Carolina lineup. Denis now joins fellow North Carolina natives Jaydon Young and Jarin Stevenson, emphasizing the program's commitment to locking down local stars. He becomes the sixth confirmed player for the 2024-25 roster, alongside Young, Stevenson, Neoklis Avdalas, Maximo Adams, and Malloy Smith.

With several roster spots still in flux and high-profile targets in the portal, Denis's commitment offers stability. For a team looking to blend experience with new talent, retaining a player of his potential—who has already shown a smooth shooting stroke in Carolina Blue—is a positive step. Tar Heel faithful will be eager to see a healthy Denis make his mark in a larger role next season.
