Jordan Spieth recreated a scene from his peak in the mid-2010s on Saturday.

Jordan Spieth isn't back—at least not yet. But for one glorious stretch on Saturday at the Truist Championship, the three-time major winner made it look an awful lot like 2017.

The former World No. 1, now ranked 50th, had been stuck in neutral for the first 42 holes of the tournament, sitting at even par. Then came the seventh hole. Standing 66 feet from the cup on the 553-yard par-5, Spieth faced a steeply uphill eagle putt. He gave it a confident rap, watched it climb the ridge, take a subtle left break, and rattle the flagstick before dropping in for an eagle.

The crowd erupted for one of the PGA Tour's most beloved stars—even though he's managed just two Tour wins since his last major in 2017. But don't tell Spieth it's not 2017 anymore. In a flashback to his unforgettable Open Championship victory at Royal Birkdale, he calmly pointed at caddie Michael Greller, motioned to the hole, and walked to the eighth tee while Greller retrieved the ball. Pure magic.

This is the same Spieth who famously yelled "Go get that" to Greller after draining a 48-foot eagle putt on the 15th hole at Birkdale to regain the solo lead. That day, he'd made bogey on the 13th after hitting his tee shot onto the driving range, then stuffed his approach on the 14th to get the shot back with a birdie. The rollercoaster was vintage Spieth.

Next week, he'll have his 10th chance to complete the career Grand Slam at the PGA Championship at Aronimink, outside Philadelphia. While Spieth hasn't won since 2017, moments like Saturday remind us that the fire—and the flair—is still there.
