ARLINGTON — Sometimes, all it takes is a little time off to rediscover your swing. After spending the weekend watching from the bench, Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger reminded everyone why he was once the team's cleanup hitter, delivering a performance that had fans on their feet at Globe Life Field.

In a thrilling 6-5 walk-off victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Burger provided the spark the Rangers desperately needed. He launched a go-ahead home run in the fifth inning and followed it up with a game-tying single in the ninth, accounting for half of the team's runs on the night. His clutch hit set the stage for catcher Danny Jansen, who sealed the win with a walk-off single in the next at-bat.

"We need him," said Rangers manager Skip Schumaker, who had benched Burger amid a brutal slump, believing he was just "a hit or two away from getting extremely hot and carrying a team." "Middle of the lineup, bottom of the lineup lately, and he's provided some huge runs and runs batted in."

The comeback was especially impressive given the bullpen's uncharacteristic struggles. Left-hander Jacob Latz, who had been lights-out since taking over the closer role nearly two weeks ago, ran into trouble in the ninth. After a leadoff double from Corbin Carroll and a wild pitch that moved him to third, the Diamondbacks tied the game on Nolan Arenado's double. Ildemaro Vargas followed with a single, plating two more runs to give Arizona a 5-3 lead.

But the Rangers refused to quit. Burger's heroics in the bottom of the ninth proved that sometimes, a weekend off is exactly what a slugger needs to find his groove again.
