The Minnesota Timberwolves are riding high after stealing Game 1 on the road against the San Antonio Spurs, and now they're getting even stronger for tonight's Game 2. After missing the series opener with a right calf injury, guard Ayo Dosunmu is set to return to the lineup—a major boost for a team already dealing with key injuries in the backcourt.
Dosunmu, acquired at the trade deadline, was on fire before getting hurt late in the first-round series against the Denver Nuggets. He averaged 21.8 points per game while shooting an incredible 60.9% from the field and 54.5% from beyond the arc. His performance peaked in Game 4 against Denver, where he dropped 43 points and drilled five 3-pointers. That kind of firepower is exactly what the Timberwolves need as they look to take a commanding 2-0 lead over Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.
With Donte DiVincenzo already sidelined by a torn Achilles, Dosunmu's return couldn't come at a better time. In his absence, Terrence Shannon Jr. stepped up admirably, scoring 24 points in the series-clinching Game 6 win over Denver. But Dosunmu is expected to reclaim his starting spot alongside Mike Conley, giving Minnesota a proven scorer and playmaker against a Spurs team that will be hungry to even the series.
Health remains a concern for the Timberwolves, as Anthony Edwards is battling through a knee injury. But this team hasn't used that as an excuse, and with Dosunmu back in the fold, they have the depth to keep pushing. Game 2 tonight is a golden opportunity to put a premier title contender on the ropes—and with their reinforcements ready, the Timberwolves are poised to strike.
