Glenn Irwin says he "enjoys and thrives" in the intense environment of the British Superbike Championship as he targets his first title.

The roar of engines, the smell of burning rubber, and the unyielding pressure of the championship chase—this is where Glenn Irwin feels most at home. As the 36-year-old Northern Irishman sets his sights on finally capturing his first British Superbike Championship title, he's embracing the intensity that comes with the territory.

"I enjoy and thrive in that intense environment," Irwin says, and for good reason. After three runner-up finishes, he's hungry for the top step. For the 2026 season, Irwin will be riding a Ducati for Nitrous Competitions Racing, a move that has him feeling optimistic despite a lingering shoulder issue that he describes as a "niggle."

Pre-season preparations have gone well as the team adapts to their new Ducati machinery. "We have the package, the tools and I think the best engineers in the paddock," Irwin told BBC Sport NI. "The guys have worked flat out around the clock, so a huge thanks to them for their effort."

Irwin will share the team garage with reigning BSB champion Kyle Ryde, who clinched the title in dramatic fashion at the final round of 2025. Having battled through an injury-marred 2025 campaign, Irwin is eager to return to full fitness and form.

The BSB season kicks off at Oulton Park from May 2-4, but Irwin's schedule doesn't get any easier from there. Immediately after the season opener, he'll head straight back to his native Northern Ireland to race at the North West 200—a legendary road race where he holds the record with 11 Superbike class wins.

For Irwin, the contrast between the two events couldn't be more welcome. "They are two very different things. BSB is a very intense environment, which is one I thoroughly enjoy and thrive on," he explains. "The North West feels like a holiday for me, as I've always said. I go there for a bit of rest and relaxation, win a few races all being well, and come back to Donington [for the second BSB round] recharged."

The Irwin name will be well-represented across the paddock this season. Glenn's younger brother, Andrew, will also be riding a Ducati for his own team after three years with the factory Honda squad. Andrew, a four-time BSB race winner, shared his excitement at the pre-season test at Oulton Park.

"People don't realise the amount of work that has gone into making this happen," Andrew said. "I feel confident and I'm really enjoying the bike. As long as I stay calm and continue to adapt to the Ducati, we'll only get stronger."

With both brothers chasing glory on Ducatis, the 2026 BSB season promises to be one for the ages. For Glenn Irwin, the path to that elusive first title runs through intensity, focus, and a love for the ride.
