In a dramatic finale to the Championship season, Ipswich Town secured their return to the Premier League with a commanding 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Portman Road on Saturday. The win clinched the second automatic promotion spot behind runaway champions Coventry City, sparking scenes of jubilation as hundreds of fans streamed onto the pitch amid blue and white fireworks.

Early goals from George Hirst and Jaden Philogene settled any early nerves, with Kasey McAteer adding a third late on to seal the deal. Ipswich's promotion marks a remarkable turnaround—they were promoted to the Championship in 2023 and now bounce straight back to the top flight after a disappointing relegation last season with just 22 points.

"It means a lot, I have to say. It's probably been the hardest one of our three promotions in four years," a club representative reflected.

While Ipswich celebrated, Wrexham's fairytale rise through the divisions came to a heartbreaking halt. A 2-2 draw at home to Middlesbrough on the final day cost them a playoff spot, with Hull City snatching the sixth and final position instead. Hull's 2-1 win over Norwich City—their first victory in seven league games—lifted them two points clear of the Welsh club.

The playoff picture is now set. Millwall secured third place with a 2-0 win over relegated Oxford United, finishing a point behind Ipswich. They will face Hull in the two-legged semifinals starting May 8. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough and Southampton—who ended level on 80 points—will battle it out in the other semifinal after Southampton's 3-1 win at Preston North End. Derby County had also been in contention for the final playoff spot but fell 2-1 at home to Sheffield United despite taking an early lead.

For fans of the beautiful game, this season's Championship finale was a reminder of why we love the sport: raw emotion, unexpected twists, and the relentless pursuit of glory. Whether your team is heading to the Premier League or regrouping for another campaign, the passion never fades.
