NEW DELHI: Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL 2026 match in Lucknow on Friday. LSG benched Aussie batter Josh Inglis, however he was in the impact players list and is expected to bat in the second innings. Abdul Samad and Mukul Choudhary came in for LSG, while for CSK handed Spencer Johnson his debut in a yellow jersey.

In a pivotal IPL 2026 clash, Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Friday. With both teams looking to make a statement, the decision to chase on a surface that appeared slightly tacky could prove crucial.

LSG made some bold selection calls, benching Australian batter Josh Inglis from the starting XI. However, Inglis is listed among the impact substitutes and is expected to feature with the bat during the second innings. The home side brought in Abdul Samad and Mukul Choudhary to strengthen their lineup, signaling a tactical shift as they look to build momentum.

For CSK, the big news was handing left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson his debut in the iconic yellow jersey. The Australian quick has been turning heads with his raw pace and could be a game-changer on a surface that offers early assistance.

Speaking at the toss, Pant explained his decision: "The wicket is looking a little bit tacky, so we didn't need to go out there and bat ourselves. As a team, we have a lot to achieve. We run on trust, and that's something we are looking forward to. Akash is getting his first chance of the season. We're trying a few things for the next season and just looking to give our 200% regardless."

Pant also acknowledged the team's struggles this season but remained upbeat. "There's no running away from the way we've played. But there are a lot of positives we can take. We know we have it in the team, and sometimes things don't work your way. We've got to still play good cricket and look to improve every day."

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad responded with characteristic calm: "It's a privilege to wear the yellow jersey. This venue demands good batting and bowling. Batting first, we still have to put up a strong score. There might be a bit of moisture to start with, but if we execute our plans, we can defend it."

With both teams eyeing a crucial win, all eyes will be on the impact player rule and how Inglis, Samad, and debutant Johnson shape the outcome of this high-stakes encounter.
