Chennai Super Kings boosted their IPL 2026 playoff hopes with a comfortable eight-wicket win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.

The IPL 2026 playoff race is heating up, and Match 48 delivered a thrilling shake-up to the points table. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) soared to sixth place after a commanding eight-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, keeping their postseason dreams very much alive.

Chasing a modest 156 on a tricky Delhi surface, CSK made it look easy, reaching the target in just 17.3 overs. The star of the show was Sanju Samson, who smashed an unbeaten 87 off just 52 balls, laced with seven fours and six sixes. Kartik Sharma played the perfect supporting role with a cool 41 not out off 31 deliveries. After early losses of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Urvil Patel, the duo steadied the ship and powered CSK home without any further drama.

This dominant win lifted CSK to 10 points from 10 matches, with a healthy net run rate of +0.151. They now sit just two points behind the playoff contenders, making every remaining match a must-watch.

For Delhi Capitals, the story was far less encouraging. Despite a fighting 40 not out from Sameer Rizvi and 38 from Tristan Stubbs—who rescued them from a shaky 69/5 to post 155/7—their total proved well below par. CSK's bowlers were disciplined on the slow pitch, with Noor Ahmad leading the way with two wickets, while Akeal Hosein, Mukesh Choudhary, Jamie Overton, and Gurjapneet Singh each chipped in with one.

The loss drops DC to seventh place with just eight points from 10 matches and a worrying net run rate of -0.949. With the playoffs slipping further away, the pressure is mounting on the Delhi camp as they head into the final stretch of the league phase.

At the top of the table, Punjab Kings continue to lead the pack with 13 points. However, the race is incredibly tight: Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans are all locked on 12 points each. As the season enters its decisive phase, every win—and every net run rate percentage point—could make all the difference.
