The race for the IPL 2026 playoffs just got a little more interesting. Mumbai Indians kept their faint hopes alive with a thrilling six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, in a match that had fans on the edge of their seats.

Chasing a massive target of 229, MI got off to a flying start thanks to sensational half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. Sharma smashed 84 off 44 balls, while Rickelton blazed an incredible 83 off just 32 deliveries. Together, they put on a match-defining 143-run opening partnership that set the tone for the chase. MI reached the target with 18.4 overs to spare, a statement win that keeps them in the playoff conversation.

The victory was only Mumbai's third in 10 matches this season, moving them to six points with a net run rate of -0.649. They remain in ninth place, but mathematically, they're still alive. For Lucknow, it was another tough night. Despite a promising batting display—Nicholas Pooran hammered his first fifty of the season (63 off 21 balls), with support from Mitchell Marsh (44), Himmat Singh (40 not out), and Aiden Markram (31 not out)—LSG couldn't defend their total. They stay rooted to the bottom of the table with just four points from nine matches and a net run rate of -1.076.

Earlier, LSG finally showed some batting spark after a disappointing campaign, but MI's Corbin Bosch was the standout with the ball, finishing with figures of 2/20. At the top of the table, Punjab Kings continue to lead with 13 points from nine matches, followed closely by Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 12 points with the best net run rate among the top teams. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans are all tied on 12 points, making the race for the playoffs increasingly intense as the league stage enters its final phase.
