IPL 2026: Urvil Patel scripts history, smashes joint-fastest ever fifty in IPL vs LSG

Urvil Patel unleashed an explosive batting display, smashing 25 runs off Avesh Khan in the fifth over and another 25 off Digvesh Rathi in the sixth. He became the first batter in IPL history to hit six sixes in his first eight balls, racing to 41. Patel then achieved a breathtaking half-century in just 13 balls, equalling the IPL record.

Urvil Patel has written his name into IPL history with a stunning display of power-hitting that left fans and bowlers alike in disbelief. The young batter smashed the joint-fastest fifty in tournament history during Chennai Super Kings' chase of 204 against Lucknow Super Giants at Chepauk, reaching the milestone in just 13 balls.

What made this innings truly special was how it began. Patel became the first player in IPL history to hit six sixes within his first eight balls, racing to 41 runs off just eight deliveries. This shattered the previous best of 33 runs after eight balls, showing just how explosive his start was.

The chase started positively for CSK, who reached 45 in the opening partnership. However, the momentum shifted when Sanju Samson fell for a rapid 28 off 14 balls, dismissed by Digvesh Singh Rathi. Given Chennai's recent struggles while chasing and the loss of their leading run-scorer, LSG sensed an opportunity to seize control.

That opportunity vanished the moment Urvil Patel walked to the crease.

The fifth over against Avesh Khan was pure carnage. Patel smashed three consecutive sixes, ripping 25 runs from the over as Avesh struggled to find his length. The first slot delivery disappeared over mid-wicket, the next was muscled over wide mid-on, and the final blow sailed deep into the stands. Chepauk erupted as LSG suddenly found themselves under immense pressure.

If the fifth over was destructive, the sixth was absolute mayhem. Patel targeted Digvesh Rathi in the final over of the powerplay and unleashed another six-hitting masterclass. He smashed massive sixes over mid-wicket and long-on, including a monstrous 98-metre hit that left the crowd stunned. CSK collected another 25-run over, completely flipping the chase in their favour.

By then, Urvil was rewriting IPL record books. His 13-ball fifty equalled the all-time record held by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who achieved the feat against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023. For a young batter to produce such a performance on the biggest stage, and in a high-pressure chase, marks the arrival of a special talent.
