IPL 2026: Rs 12 lakh fine for Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel after win vs Punjab Kings

Axar Patel was fined Rs 12 lakh after Delhi Capitals maintained a slow over rate during their thrilling three-wicket IPL 2026 win over Punjab Kings. Axar scored 56 while David Miller added 51 in Delhi’s successful chase of 211. Madhav Tiwari starred with two wickets and a calm finishing cameo as Delhi kept their playoff hopes alive.

Axar Patel may have been hit with a Rs 12 lakh fine for a slow over-rate, but the Delhi Capitals captain will be smiling after his side pulled off a stunning three-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in Dharamsala during IPL 2026.

The IPL confirmed the penalty under Article 2.22 of the Code of Conduct, noting it was Delhi's first over-rate offense of the season. But the fine was just a footnote on a night that kept Delhi's playoff dreams alive in dramatic fashion.

Chasing a mammoth 211, Delhi looked down and out at 74/4. That's when Axar stepped up, playing a captain's knock of 56 runs. Veteran David Miller provided the perfect support with a vital 51, steadying the ship when it mattered most.

The chase was finished off by youngsters Ashutosh Sharma and Madhav Tiwari, who showed nerves of steel to guide Delhi home at 216/7 in just 19 overs.

Earlier, Punjab Kings had posted 210/5 thanks to Priyansh Arya (56) and an unbeaten 59 from captain Shreyas Iyer. Cooper Connolly also chipped in with 38. But Delhi's bowling attack, led by Mitchell Starc and Madhav Tiwari—who took two wickets each—kept the game within reach.

The win gives Delhi a much-needed confidence boost ahead of their next clash against Rajasthan Royals, though they remain seventh on the points table. For fans, it was a reminder that in T20 cricket, no target is safe—and no fine can dampen the spirit of a captain who leads from the front.
