IPL 2026, RR vs DC: Will Mitchell Starc play today? Munaf Patel drops big hint

Delhi Capitals receive a significant boost with Mitchell Starc's availability for their IPL 2026 clash against Rajasthan Royals. Bowling coach Munaf Patel confirmed the pacer's recovery, highlighting his crucial role in a struggling attack. Despite recent batting collapses, Patel expressed confidence in the team's approach, emphasising a do-or-die mindset for the upcoming must-win game.

The Delhi Capitals have received a massive confidence boost ahead of their must-win IPL 2026 showdown against the Rajasthan Royals, with bowling coach Munaf Patel confirming that star pacer Mitchell Starc is fit and available for selection.

Starc, who has been sidelined with shoulder and elbow issues, hasn't played a competitive match since January. But his return couldn't come at a better time for a Delhi side that has struggled to find consistency with the ball this season.

"He is available from tomorrow. Our best bowler will definitely play, but the final decision will be taken tomorrow. His coming back definitely helps," Patel said on the eve of the match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

The left-arm quick's inclusion is expected to add much-needed control to the Capitals' powerplay bowling, an area where they've often leaked runs. With Starc likely to slot into the playing XI in place of one of the overseas pacers, Delhi will be hoping his big-match experience can turn their campaign around.

Patel was emphatic about the importance of a strong bowling unit in T20 cricket, especially in high-scoring conditions. "I always say this: a match can be won by batters, but a tournament is won by bowlers. If bowlers bowl well, you can win the tournament. Batters can win you a game, but without good bowling, you cannot win consistently," he asserted.

Despite a turbulent run that saw them bowled out for just 75 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Patel insisted there's no panic in the camp. "No, we were not nervous. We were playing with a different approach. The wicket was doing a bit, and they bowled well. It is not like if you lose one game, you become nervous in the next game," he said.

With three wins and four losses so far, the Capitals find themselves in a precarious position. Their campaign has been a rollercoaster—swinging from a 250-plus total in one match to a batting collapse in the next. But as Patel puts it, these are the moments that define a team. "In do-or-die situations, the best teams step up," he added.

For Delhi fans, the sight of Starc steaming in with the new ball could be exactly the spark this team needs. Whether he's wearing the Capitals' colors or your favorite team's jersey, a world-class pacer in form is always a sight to behold.
